Boo to you...

It's starting to look a lot like Halloween around these parts... Even the Fairies are getting in the mood.
We ended up going to the iMax (for date day) yesterday to see Eagle Eye...two thumbs up!! I walked in not knowing anything about the movie, just the way I like it.
I'm off to the studio now, have a great day!

I NEED HELP!

I am in need of some help/advise...
I live in somewhat of rural area with plenty of wildlife from, squirrels (ground & tree) deer, coyote, bobcat, wild turkeys, mountain loin, bears and RACCOONS! We have managed to coexist amongst them without too many problems. I have resigned that I must share my rose buds with the deer, live with the squirrel holes in my yard, clean the poop from the walk ways when the wild turkeys pass through, pick up the trash after the bears over turn the trash cans, bringing our neighbors cat into our garage every night so the coyotes don't find her, not walking far from home once it gets dark (you wouldn't want to come face to face with a mountain lion)
BUT, we are having some problems with the raccoons lately! It looks like a mom with 2 of her kids, they are not babies, but adolescent (so they are trouble makers) lol
I can usually tell when they have visited us. In the morning, there will be muddy foot prints (which are really cute) on the walk ways and the flowers bed boarders are dug up from them looking for worms and such.

But the last few nights they have started to dig up our grass. I found a 2ft. patch drug up the other night. So yesterday I set up the scare-crow, thinking that would do it. But last night (2am) we were woke up to them playing on the grass with the scare-crow going crazy...they loved the water! We are ready for them to move on, but I'm not sure how I can help them along? Any advise?

I hope you like them? I also added a few more felted wool acorns, if you are still looking for those and some bags of felted wool sweater scraps. Hurry up and wait

I'm still here...
We are finding out that it's harder to get things to coordinate with every one's schedule, so we are sitting here in limo (for right now)

I'm making good use of time though...although yesterday was not too productive...
Monday's are usually spent getting things ready for the week, laundry, grocery shopping, etc...
I just started book 3 of 4 (Twilight series) on my ipod, which is kept in my studio for good reason, sometimes I need a little motivation. Well, yesterday I decided to go get it, after all I can do two things at once, can't I? (I walk & chew gum all the time) but it was not a good idea...I found myself sitting in a pile of dirty clothes waiting to see what was going to happen next...
(note to self...keep ipod up in the studio from now on)
I'm also finding it hard not to head over to Stephenie Meyer's page to read the illegal posting of the draft of the Midnight Sun, a view into Edward's head...but if I do decide to read it, I'll wait until I finish all 4 books, just in case there are spoilers...

I'm really looking forward to the movie (12.12.08)
ok, today I'll have to play catch up from yesterday's list of to-do's, first on my list is taking pictures of acorns for Esty.

A little later
ok...pictures are done! Acorns are ready for new homes now...
Have a great day!

Eat cake!

I love pears...I like them in salads, poached, plain and in cake! I had everything in my pantry but the applesauce, so I just added 1/2 cup extra pear puree. I think it turned out fine...better than fine, it was great!

Gingered Fresh Pear Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups pureed pears, about 4 to 5 medium ripe pears

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger*

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup naturally sweetened applesauce

  • 5 eggs

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

Preheat oven to 350°.
Butter and generously flour a Bundt pan. Puree pears in a food processor. In a small bowl mix the pureed pears, vanilla, lemon juice, cinnamon, and ground ginger. Set aside. Heat the milk and butter in a small saucepan until butter is melted. Sift flour and baking powder.

With an electric mixer on medium-high, beat the eggs and brown sugar for 5 minutes, until pale and thick. Add milk and melted butter mixture while beating on low, then add the pear mixture and applesauce. Add the flour and baking powder, beating until just combined. Pour batter into the prepared Bundt pan and bake for about 55 to 60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Sprinkle with powder sugar.
Serve with a dollop of sweetened whipped cream.

*Even though the recipe calls for "ground" ginger, I used fresh. Ginger is one of my favorites. I use to have the hardest time grating it fine enough though, until I found this from World Market. I love it!

I'm counting the days until I can get my fix of Sprinkles. Yup, I love them that much! But, if you don't have a Sprinkles near you, you could always get your fix with the new pumpkin cupcakes from William Sonoma.
In honor of the occasion, how about a cupcake pendant or cellphone charm!
Leave a comment below letting me know your favorite kind of cupcake and I'll make the winner their favorite flavor (in glass of course) but hurry, you have until Thursday morning to leave a comment...

The best of both...

Well, some of you already know...we are getting ready to relocate (well sort of)
My husband, Kurt has be offered a wonderful job opportunity painting for one of the top car designers. This means we would have to move to Los Angeles (Huntington Beach)
So we've decided to give it a trial run for 8 weeks. We'll be at the beach during the week and then back here in the mountains on the weekends (the best of both)

I have been putting beads aside over the last few weeks, so I will have beads during this time to put on ebay. I plan on doing some metalsmithing & PMC while I'm at the beach, I'm not sure if the hotel would be keen if I set up my torch and all???

PLEASE NOTE...
For voters, I have a NEW email address. You can find it on the Greenhouse Goody page, please use this while I'm away.
If you need to contact me for any reason other than voting, I have an email link on my home page (mid/bottom) but please note, it may take awhile for me to respond.

Plus over the next few weeks...
I will only be shipping beads one day a week (Saturday)
All eBay auctions will start on Saturdays (6:00pm, PST) and end on Thursdays (6:00pm, PST)
This will give you a couple days to pay, so I can ship them in a timely manner...thanks

We are both looking forward to this new adventure in our lives...
:o)
