If at first you don't succeed...

designofthemonth 721

A baby turtle was standing at the bottom of a large tree and with a deep sigh, started to climb. About an hour later, he reached a very high branch and walked along to the end.

He turned and spread all four flippers and launched himself off the branch. On landing at the bottom in a pile of soft, dead leaves, he shook himself off, walked back to the bottom of the tree and with a sigh started to climb.

About an hour later, he again reached the very high branch, walked along, turned, spread his flippers and flung himself off the branch. Again, he landed on the bottom, shook himself off, went to the bottom of the tree, sighed and started climbing.

Watching these proceedings from the end of the branch were two little birds.

Mommy bird turned to Daddy bird and said, "Don't you think it's time we told him he was adopted?"
(Author unknown)

These 2 little guys will be up for adoption this Friday in my Etsy store.

I spent the weekend getting ready for my bees. Painted the hives, poured a little pad for them to sit on. Molly even helped...Next week I'll place the hives in place and the following week my bees will arrive! Sweet! There are a few more pics on Flickr.

What a Hoot

A friend sent me this link. It is cuteness overload.
Her name is Molly, so you knew she had to be cute, right?
She is a Barn Owl who lives in San Marcos, CA.
Feeding time is not so pleasant. Yesterday as I was watching, they were having rat-atouille for dinner...kind of gross.

A week in review

One week down, a few more weeks to go.
I hope I'm making every breed you were hoping for?
Some breeds are harder to make than others, like the poodles. And then there are some breeds I've tried to make that have turned out so so UGLY!
I have a little pile of ugly dog beads that will be heading to Beads of Courage. I figures the kids may enjoy them and if nothing else they will get a good laugh! I'll also include some "cute" dogs to go with them too.

I do have a question...I know I've made more dogs than cats (I'm a dog person, shh don't tell our cat this) But my question is: Should I be making more cats? Or do you like 4 dogs to 1 cat ratio?

I've been working on back orders this week so I didn't get a lot of play time, but I managed to make a couple things (Beachy) that I'll put on Etsy later today. I have a (much needed) hair cut appointment later this morning, than I'll take some pics and get those on Etsy.
And remember, I will be posting dog/cat beads on Etsy this weekend.

ARF ARF

designofthemonth 570 (600 x 714)

designofthemonth 571 (600 x 484)

designofthemonth 575 (600 x 445)

Last week when I found a stray dog wondering the streets. I placed signs around the neighborhood, called the pound and left my number, called all the local vets, placed a ad in Lost & Found. But apparently someone dumped him, because no one has called to claim him (I know sad, he is such a sweet dog) A friend of ours does a lot volunteering for a no-kill shelter in Fresno and was kind enough to take him in.

I wanted to show my appreciation...She transports small dogs up to the OR and WA area because of the over population here in CA and the need (want) for small dogs up there. So I made a her a key-ring for the van she uses. I hope she likes it...and yes, this will be the shelter I will be donating a portion of each sale of the dog & cat beads this month.
xo
Update-I've received a few emails about the above keyring. Sorry it is not available, it was a gift for our friend.
But I will have a couple un-neutered dogs coming in the following days on Etsy. Thanks

Picking colors

paint 003

I'm going to finish a project this weekend,
but I'm trying to decide what colors to pick.
I may just pick the color by the name, like...
Sugar Snap Pea (makes me hungry)
Lilac dream (mine are getting ready to bloom any day)
Star Fruit (yum)
Misty May (reminds me of a morning walk on the beach)
So can you guess what I'm painting in these yummy colors?
Any ideas?

Confused?

Are you a little confused about the Design of the Month?
Something that I thought was so simple, has turned into something a little confusing.
Maybe I should have thought this through a little better? But anyway...
Here's the poop, I mean scoop...
(the revised version)

1-I will be posting at least one dog or cat bead EVERYDAY in my Etsy store.
Even when my website is fixed, beads with be placed on Etsy.

2-Beads will be posted EVERYDAY, even on weekends.

3-Beads will be posted at different times though-out the upcoming days.

I think this will be the easiest way for everyone, I hope you agree.

Overload

Are you suffering from chocolate overload too?
I love those Cadbury Mini Eggs, my favorite...and I had my fair share this weekend.

As some of you may know...
I'm having problems with my website keeping track of inventory. The last two "animal" beads that I offered last week for The design of the Month, both times my website did not update the inventory. I only have one bead a day (Monday-Friday)
So today I'm making the extra ones that sold before I went and manually changed the inventory, to sold out.
Until this problem gets fixed, I'll be listing the beads right here on my blog.

This morning we woke up to freshly fallen snow, again!
Only a couple of inches, so it should be gone by the end of the day. Spring I'm ready for you to arrive. xo

And if you are in the mood for a good sale on this Good Friday, I've marked down everything in my Etsy store (but the sale ends Sunday)

Design of the Month (April)

This month's design will be a little different and so much fun (no foolin')
In honor of Molly's birthday this month (April 21st)

I will be celebrating it by having a birthday month in her honor!
Everyday (Monday-Friday) throughout this month, I'll be offering a different animal bead, mostly dogs & cats, but maybe a couple other things too.

PLEASE NOTE-I WILL NOT BE TAKING ORDERS FOR THESE BEADS
It will be on a first come basis and I'll be putting the beads up at different times throughout the upcoming days.

designofthemonth 432

I came up with this idea awhile ago, so I've been making lots of dogs & cats for this occasion. A portion of each sale will be donated to a no-kill shelter of my choice.
I'll be posting the first bead sometime today, so let the party begin!

In Wonderland

I wanted to share a bookmark that Caroline from the U.K. made for her god daughter in Australia. She got the mushroom awhile back and just ordered the bunny & teacup to complete the piece. I love the little pocket watch at the bottom, so whimsical...perfect timing with the movie being out right now too.

Tomorrow I'll tell you all about the new Design of the Month!
It's going to be a little different this month.
I can't wait...

But right now I'm off to move my succulents off the back deck, it's snowing here! Crazy weather...two days ago it was in the mid 70's, now today it's snowing.

LOST DOG

Yesterday while driving home, I found a lost dog running in the middle of the road.
Stopped, brought him home, gave him a dry (it's raining here) place to sleep, water, food, took his picture, printed out posters, drove around late last night posting them EVERYWHERE.
Now I just hope someone calls. He really is the sweetest dog...

Finders Keepers

piglet 068

This weekend I was going through some drawers, cleaning out...I found some small things that were not worthy of throwing away, but not really worthy of keeping either. Then I thought about the geocaching box Anthony & Maureen have. These things would be perfect for that. Which made me curious to know what kind of things people were leaving...so I ventured out to poke around...and that's when I found this cute little tiny pewter Piglet. The rules of geocaching are if you take something, you should leave something too. So I took Piglet and I'm going back to leave a baggies of goodies in it's place.
Anthony put a disposable camera in his cache, for people to take there picture when they found it. I was going to get it developed if it was full, but the camera was gone (note to Anthony: Did you take it? I hope so)

I'm MAD

I'm mad for Mad Men!
I didn't know this until we finished the last disk (season 2) in our NetFlix queue and season 3 was not yet released. Today season 3 was released and was delivered and it's in my hands right now. I'm ready to get a drunk just from watching how much everyone drinks in the show, it's crazy! And I swear my clothes smell like smoke after we watch an episode. But I love it!
They even have Mad Men dolls!

Now that's funny!
Are you mad for Mad Men too? Tonight my house, don't be late!

Weekend projects

mollyfish 036 (600 x 450)

This weekend we finished our painting projects. Kurt worked on the entryway. On a ladder 25 feet off the ground. I'm afraid of heights so I could not watch.
So I tackled the kitchen, which is now a nice fresh shade of Granny Smith Apple Green. Makes me crave an apple every time I go into the kitchen now...

Oh, the picture above? What does it have to do with painting? Absolutely nothing!
Molly "finally" updated her blog.

Ideas Revisited

Last week while going through old photos of beads, I found a set of beads I made for ebay years ago called, "Secret Garden Windows"

This week I decided to revisit the idea and I came up with this necklace.

website 2242 (400 x 716)

Very Spring looking, don't you think.
And yes, it is available on my site, along with a few other new things.

Happy Spring (tomorrow)

I've got a fever

I came down with a fever. A bad fever. Spring fever.

garden2010 009 (601 x 451)

The temps this week are in the low 70's. Need I say more?

garden2010 004 (601 x 519)

Green leaves are popping out on woody branches.
I'm loving the longer days, still adjusting to the early mornings though.

garden2010 011 (601 x 451)

Wild bees cover the rosemary. Everything is starting to wake up. Except for Rosie (my box turtle) She is sleeping in. My vegetable & flower seeds arrived in the mail, so I've be getting my garden boxes ready to plant. I want to make sure my bees will be happy with a nice variety of yummy blooms. I tell ya, I've got the fever...

garden2010 007 (601 x 451)

My roses have lots of new growth, soon they will be covered in pink blooms.

garden2010 019 (601 x 451)

I Love purple pansies...
Do you have "the fever" too?

I'll be making corned beef and cabbage for dinner tonight. I'm going to try ours Bobby Flay style.
Have a Happy St. Patty's Day!

Happy Hippity Hoppity Friday

Hippity Hoppity

I just put a couple new "Spring" things on my site, both on the jewelry and Fairy house pages. I hope you'll enjoy!

It's going to be a busy weekend here. I'm painting walls (entry & kitchen) Cleaning up the garden boxes to get ready for planting (I just placed my order for seeds) Assemble my new Adirondack chairs for the porch. And last, but not least...assembling my bee boxes and pick out the spot I'm going to house them.

What are your weekend plans?

Next week will be Spring, this weekend we set the clocks ahead...I tell ya, it's flying by.
I have a couple new things that I'll put up tomorrow on my site.

The Answer and New Goodies

beekeeping 048 (650 x 488)

beekeeping 051 (650 x 488)
Here is the answer to yesterday's post. Were you right? This Queen is an Italian queen. You can tell by the darker body color.

As for beads, I have a few things ending today on eBay and I have some fine silver goodies (PMC) going on my website later this week...

The Queenie

beekeeping 043 (350 x 278)

beekeeping 046 (600 x 450)

beekeeping 048 (600 x 450)

beekeeping 051 (600 x 450)

Saturday's beekeeping class was so much fun. So much info too!
We opened bee boxes to see if we could find the queen bees. Each box has between 8,000-10,000 bees inside. So finding her can be hard for a newbie. You have to look close, she has a bigger body and smaller wings. Can you find her? I'll post a pic tomorrow to see if you were correct. Now I just need to decide what kind of queen to get, Carniolan or Italian? Each has it's own pros and cons. I'm starting off with 2-boxes, so I may do one of each.
