I've been getting a lot of requests for the little otters lately, so I decided to make them the DOTM and priced them at a special price. I think I'll be making a pair into earrings for myself too...

Throwdown

We spent the weekend at the invitational Truckin' Throwdown at El Toro Marine Base in Irvine CA.

We also had time to visit some of my favorite places, like Roger's Gardens. LOVE this place... 

I was smitten with these bird houses...

and the "rock" owls were rockin...what a hoot!

Mystery solved.

Scalpers use computer software to secure large numbers of permits. That's why in 5 minutes of time, 12,400 permits (the whole months worth) are sold out.

Let's hope they can fix this soon, so we all can go hike Half Dome.

Today my bead table has not one bead on it (not one) but it is full of clay cupcakes. I'm making them for a display for an upcoming bead show I'm doing.

Not my birthday or anniversary

You can imagine my surprise when someone brought home roses...

It wasn't my birthday or even our anniversary.

From time to time Kurt receives a tip for a job well done (he's a custom painter/airbrush artist)

So when he delivered a job to a customer who owns a florist shop, the guy was so happy with the art work on his Harley, he handed Kurt a $100 tip...

Which Kurt turned around and exchanged for pale pink roses (my favorite) for me. 

It was the best surprise ever...and so thoughtful.

Wild Berries by the Sea...

I had a little extra time this week for a little "play time" at the torch. I sure do miss play time...

I made this sweet little wild berry necklace, wrapped in sterling silver. I'm craving strawberries...

Farmers Market {new beads}

I added some new beads to the shop.

Mellow Yellow

 

I painted my new bee boxes.

I thought mellow yellow would go nicely with my other boxes. (lavender and Green)
Let's hope the bees like it too.

Note-the color is actually called lemon ice, but I like mellow yellow better! ha

Bottled up...

This is my favorite time of year in the garden.
Everything is blooming and coming to life.

The air is filled with the sweet smell of lilac, lavender and sweet peas (and roses soon)

I tell you, I wish I could bottle the fragrance...I LOVE the smell of lilacs...L.O.V.E.

Not this week...I got a little backed up with orders this week.

The birds and the bees

I've had a couple people ask me lately, "how are your bees are doing?"

One word...GREAT!

They are bursting out of their hives! Literally! One of my hives swarmed last week
(some of the bees packed up and left) 

This is not a good thing...

I was actually thinking about dividing that hive the day before they flew the coop, because it was so full. But, decided to add supers (honey boxes) instead.

The good news is I was able to catch the swarm and I started a new hive with them. I wish I got pictures, but I had my hands full. It being the first time I've caught a swarm of bees, I was a little nervous about the whole thing (to say the least) But it was really exciting and a little scary too. I wasn't worried about getting stung, I had my bee suit on...but from what I was reading, once you have a hold of the branch and you cut it. They say the bees will be heaver than you think they will be. I just DID NOT want to drop them. 

Everything went smoothly and they are enjoying their new home (hive) with extra elbow room.

It's all so exciting!

The lavender bee box in the video above is the one that swarmed. There are still soooo many bees in that box, it's crazy!
